When Alex Met Lindsay...

Alex started working at Lindsay's Father's (Matt) store, Second Amendment Sports, in May 2009. The first time Lindsay saw Alex, he was working one of the counters. She walked back to the warehouse where some co-workers were and announced, "new guy's pretty cute!" Alex claims that this was the moment when he started liking Lindsay. Weeks passed and Matt asked Lindsay how she liked the new guy, Alex. Lindsay said, "He's pretty cool. Thanks for hiring some eye-candy, Dad." Eventually, Lindsay and Alex had to work the same side of the store during a sale. Their conversation was terribly superficial and limited in topic. Lindsay left work feeling certian that Alex was exactly the kind of guy she would never be interested in. Alex left frustrated and annoyed. The end of September rolled around and Alex mustered up the courage to ask Lindsay to Monday night Frisbee with the local LDS singles. Lindsay agreed, but brought along her sidekick, Bill Shakespeare to entertain her (well, technically, she had some reading to get done for class) and sat in the grass and read while Alex dove dramatically for the frisbee. The same week, Alex invited Lindsay to have some ice cream. Little did Lindsay know, but this was actually a date. Alex took her to Frost's and they sat nearby at some tables by a fountain, talking for hours. Finally, they decided to call it a night but continued each night after that with hours of conversation. Neither had experienced anything like it before. Lindsay remained unsure if these were merely flirtations or if they were acutally dating until October 6th rolled around and she sneak-attacked him with a kiss. Then immediately ran back inside the house. It was very high school. But kind of magical.

The Proposal

True to form, I was curled up with "The Duchess of Malfi" by John Webster, a tragic Renaissance play. Alex came along and sat beside me for a while before beginning to profess his love to me. These were things I knew, felt and had heard before, so I didn't think anything of this particular moment.

"I love you too, Alex." I said, "I want to share my life with you too." These were not unfamiliar topics to us by this time. I continued, "So, I'm really hungry. Do you think we could make something to eat? Maybe some Mac N Cheese?"

"Sure," he answered. "Would you answer a question for me first?"

"Sure."

"Will you marry me?"

Completely embarrassed, I shoved my head in the nearest pillow and refused to look at him. He eventually pulled it away from me and asked me again. Of course I said yes! And then he asked me if I still wanted Mac N Cheese.
